Hande Şekerciler is an artist whose practice expands the field of sculpture both materially and conceptually. Her work investigates the tension between the fragility of the human body and the transformations introduced by the technological age. Combining traditional sculptural techniques—particularly bronze casting, modelling, and surface patination—with advanced digital tools, she examines both the enduring iconography of the body and the fractures that define its contemporary, digitally mediated existence.

At the core of her individual practice lies the body itself: moving, arrested, mutating, or slowly hardening like a shell. Şekerciler approaches the figure not merely as a form to be represented, but as a vessel shaped by rituals, emotions, and cultural codes accumulated across history. Her recent bronze sculptures manifest the invisible burdens the body carries, giving material presence to hybrid beings that are simultaneously timeless and unmistakably of the present. Surface patinas, organic deformations, and textural interventions reveal both the physical and psychological weight embedded in these forms.

Digital tools play an integral role in opening new creative pathways within her otherwise deeply craft-based process. ZBrush modelling, 3D scanning, AI-assisted sketches, and 3D printing form the initial stages of production, before the work ultimately merges with the handcraft of traditional foundries—where fire, metal, and the knowledge of artisans shape the final piece. This dual process, oscillating between the precision of the machine and the tactile memory of craft, gives her sculptures an aesthetic that is at once ancient and contemporary.

Her work explores how the figure acquires meaning within the contexts of body politics, memory, ritual, and technological transformation. Şekerciler’s sculptures suggest the human as a future archaeological artifact—both a witness and a carrier of its time.

Alongside her individual practice, she forms one half of ha:ar, the artist duo she co-founded with Arda Yalkın. ha:ar’s diverse production spans mosaics, ceramics, stained glass, wooden reliefs, and AI-generated pseudo-histories, fusing ancient visual languages with the aesthetics of contemporary screen culture to construct unexpected and provocative iconographies.

Şekerciler is also a co-founder of Piksel.Creative Solutions and Noise Media Art, two platforms that collaborate with major cultural institutions—including Ars Electronica, SONICA, the French Cultural Institute, and the British Council—to advance media art in Turkey through exhibitions, performances, and international partnerships.

She is represented by JD Malat Gallery in London, and her work has been exhibited across Europe and the United States.
